Giving back, The Greenbank way

After a calendar of fundraising initiatives with our sister hotel The Alverton, we’re excited to announce we’ve raised an astonishing £8,000 for local charity Cornwall Community Foundation.

How the money was raised

As our charity of choice since 2022, The Greenbank has been working closely with the Cornwall Community Foundation. We support their mission to help front-line, volunteer-led organisations make a positive impact in local area.

Our latest contribution comes after a serious of events with The Alverton Hotel. This includes quizzes with support from local businesses, and even team members themselves. Most notably from The Alverton’s Head Receptionist Saffion participating in The Rat Race. A 24-hour ultra-marathon event, raising over £1,000 alone. Funds also came in the form of guests donations with a voluntary £2 donation from room bookings.

Recipients of the money, Penn An Dre Resident’s Association in Truro and Pendennis Leisure Community Interest Organisation in Falmouth, were voted on by a volunteer committee from both hotels.

Penn An Dre Resident’s Association in Truro received £5,000. PADRA closely cooperate with All Saints Church parish, Cornwall Council and the residents of Penn An Dre estate.

This month, we gifted £3,000 to Pendennis Leisure CIO in Falmouth. This money will go towards its mission to re-open the Ships and Castles leisure center – to improve swimming, well-being and leisure facilities to people in the surrounding areas. It will also help protect the Pendennis headland from development.

Gemma Adams, Pendennis Leisure Trustee, praised the efforts: “We are massively grateful to The Greenbank for their support through Cornwall Community Foundation. Their funding has helped make it possible for us to open the Pendennis Community Centre for café, classes and community activities.”

A history of good deeds

The Greenbank and The Alverton have long been recognised for their charity efforts. This includes previously raising over £30,000 for Cornwall Air Ambulance’s New Heli Appeal.

Our Managing Director, Ben Young, had this to say regarding The Greenbank Hotel’s donation to Cornwall Community Foundation: “It’s heartening to see our sister hotels join forces for a common cause, reflecting our commitment to the people and projects that make Cornwall such a special place. Our hotels are not just places to stay; they are integral parts of the communities they serve. While our guests enjoy the beauty of Cornwall, we can’t ignore the pockets of need that exist so close by.

These communities rely on the support of local businesses, especially in the face of today’s challenges. We are profoundly grateful to all those who have rallied behind this unique charity initiative, including the other local businesses that donated prizes to ensure the raffles were a success. The funds we’ve raised are a beacon of hope for Cornwall’s local community groups, and we eagerly anticipate the positive impact they will make.”
