3rd september 2023: Roots Culture Summer Market – Mount Pleasant Eco Park 

Where: Porthtowan 

It’s the last chance to shop local at the Roots Culture Summer Markets, hosted in the verdant fields overlooking the stunning north Cornish coast. Head to the grassy venue and shop amongst the wild flowers and seascapes. The summer market promises an array of independent makers, upcyclers, and artists, selling their artisan products and one-of-a-kind crafts. 

Make an afternoon of it and grab a bite from one of the local food vendors, all specialising in vegan and veggie delights. The Tropical Pressure Sound System will also be joining to keep spirits high. Dog-friendly, with plenty of parking and seated areas to relax and unwind in the sunshine, head down with the whole family from 11am-4pm.

3rd september 2023: THE GREENBANK’S WEDDING SHOWCASE

Where: Right on our doorstep

5th september 2023: Newton Faulkner at The Cornish Bank

Where: Falmouth 

For a diverse and eclectic line-up of live music, The Cornish Bank is the go-to venue. This month, singer-songwriter Newton Faulkner is on the bill, bringing the alternative new sounds of his fifth studio collection ‘Human Love’ to our maritime town.

Head down to Falmouth’s most inclusive live music venue and get lost in the beats, discover great music, and meet new people.

7th september 2023: Silent Disco in the Mediterranean Biome at the eden project

Where: St Austell

A party where you control the playlist. Put on your headphones and prepare to be transported from the Cornish countryside to the balmy climes of the Med, California, and Australia, at The Eden Project’s Mediterranean biome silent disco. Set in the Citrus Grove, tune into your favourite song with the dials on your headphones. Then dance the night away amongst the olive trees and bougainvillaea.

9th – 23rd september 2023: St Ives September Festival

Where: St Ives

Our guide for what’s on this September in Cornwall wouldn’t be complete without recommending a visit to St Ives September Festival. The annual event holds huge cultural significance for the local community of the world-famous ocean town. The first festival dates back to 1978, and is an event that celebrates all the grass-root talent, from folk music, fine arts, musical and theatrical performances, to film, literature, dance, and poetry. 

Hosted every year in September, purposefully missing the rush of summer holiday tourists, it’s a chance for the locals and visitors to fully appreciate the creativity and culture St Ives harbours.

14th september 2023:  Forward and Courageous at The National Maritime Museum

Where: Falmouth

Whether you’re captivated by the history of our oceans, or want to expand your knowledge and learn something new this September, The National Maritime Museum is welcoming Professor of Maritime History, Dr Elaine Murphy to deliver a one-off lecture. 

Forward and Courageous is an exploration of both the myths and realities of life as a female pirate in the 16th to 18th centuries. Covering the stereotypes and representations in pop culture, examine the lived experiences of the women in pirate communities both onshore and aboard ships in this era. Head to the Maritime Museum at 7:30pm on 14th September for this insightful and fascinating deep dive into this part of our seafaring history.

20th september – 5th october 2023: FUP – The Minack Theatre

Where: Porthcurno 

Few theatre seats compare to those of The Minack’s, carved into the cliff face overlooking the beguiling landscape of the west coast. For two weeks, the iconic open-air amphitheatre will be hosting an on-stage adaptation of Jim Dodge’s cult classic novel, FUP. 

Quoted as ‘joyful’ and ‘profound’ by The Stage, this heartfelt comedy features a wonderful mix of live music and captivating puppetry. Directed by award-winning Cornish director Simon Harvey, It’s not one to miss this September.

22nd september 2023: An Evening with Johnny Cowling at The Alverton

Where: Truro

Lovers of stand-up comedy looking for what’s on this September in Cornwall need to get this date in the diary. Head over to The Alverton, our sister hotel in Truro, on Friday 22nd September for an evening full of belly-laughter and unapologetic Cornish humour. 

Johnny Cowling promises to have the room howling, as he performs his newest material in The Alverton’s breath-taking Great Hall. No Cornish comedy night would be complete without a pint and a pasty. Arrive at 7pm for a complimentary pint of Cornish ale and a piping hot pasty. Then fill your boots, and get ready to laugh your socks off.

29th september – 1st october 2023: FORM Art Festival at the Princess Pavilion

Where: Falmouth

Following on from the success of its inaugural event, FORM Art Festival is back for a second year. Celebrating the vibrancy of our artistic town, the 3-day festival is all about recognising and empowering creativity in our communities. 

Join in the fun at the art fair, hosted in the picturesque Princess Pavilion overlooking sub-tropical gardens and glimpses of ocean vistas across to Castle Beach. The celebration of the arts spans across the entire town, with a range of venues in Falmouth playing host to a series of inspiring workshops, talks, and exhibitions.
