We’re Going Plastic-Free for 2020!
We are so excited to announce our new year plans to be the first plastic-free hotel in Cornwall. We’ve teamed up with local potter Natalie Bonney and Cornish beauty brand Living Sea Therapy to bring our plans to life. Reducing our waste and supporting the environment is something we are passionate about at The Greenbank. Our new hand-crafted, refillable ceramic bottles mean we can wave goodbye to throwing away tens of thousands of plastic toiletry bottles every year!
WE’VE TEAMED UP WITH NATALIE BONNEY
Talented Penryn potter Natalie Bonney is the creative eye behind our plastic-free plans. She said: “As we all know we must take more responsibility for what we use on a daily basis. The less plastic that’s used in the first place, the less we have to worry about it polluting our environment, especially here in beautiful Cornwall.”
“Making the soap pumps has certainly been one of the most challenging projects I have ever undertaken. The precision involved to make them all fit a screw threaded pump top and a wall bracket whilst being functional and visually attractive was a challenge. I wanted to make something that ticks all the boxes. I have definitely learnt some new skills! Thankfully the hotel team are lovely and very patient.”
As well as supporting positive environmental changes, we are always passionate about supporting local businesses. Natalie’s gorgeous hand-made bottles will eventually be in all 61 rooms, and our housekeeping team will be refilling them with locally-sourced luxury products from Helston-based Living Sea Therapy.
a plastic-free future for the greenbank
Being a coastal hotel, protecting the Cornish environment is extremely important to the whole team, including our Managing Director Ben Young.
“At The Greenbank we believe we have an obligation to seek out the most sustainable business practices to support our climate, the local economy and our Cornish community. We also believe that deeds speak louder than words. With levels of business at an all-time high we have found that the amount of little plastic toiletry bottles that we were getting through was increasingly unbearable.”
“Incredibly the only solutions our suppliers could come up with was larger disposable single use plastic bottles! We see this as a true issue in the hotel sector. We are determined to do our bit to make a positive change for the better, hoping others may follow our lead.” – Ben Young, Managing Director
leading the way to a plastic-free cornwall
The Greenbank team are all so excited and proud to be pioneering a plastic-free future for the hospitality industry in Cornwall. We hope that other hotels in Cornwall and further afield take inspiration and our little changes can make a big impact for the future of our beautiful county.
Our new range of toiletries and ceramic pots are available to buy from our reception desk.
