We’re so proud to have joined the Food4Heroes campaign, by using The Greenbank’s kitchen as a hub to deliver fresh healthy meals to local community hospitals including Falmouth, Newquay, Helston, Stratton, Launceston and Bodmin.
Our volunteer chefs include The Greenbank’s Executive Chef Nick Hodges, Head Chef Bobby Southworth, Sous Chef Adam Brandreth, as well as Howard Sellers from Bango Kitchen in Penryn and Arty Williams, our good friend and ex owner of The Cove in Falmouth. The wonderful team are cooking and supplying hundreds of dishes, seven days a week, to support the national scheme, which has already seen 5000 chef-prepared meals for Cornwall’s hardworking NHS staff. The regional figure coincides with the collective national achievement of 100,000 meals cooked for the NHS since the initiative’s initial launch in Yorkshire on 24th March this year.
Food4Heroes was created following an emotional online appeal by NHS worker, Dawn Bilborough, which went viral when she was unable to buy food in her local supermarket after completing a 48-hour shift. With a growing army of around 35 volunteers for Food4Heroes in Cornwall, including chefs, delivery drivers and marketing individuals, the initiative not only provides busy NHS staff with hearty meals at the end of a long shift, but, by purchasing locally sourced ingredients for the meals, is also supporting the economy of local food producers and suppliers.
Food4Heroes has ambitions to support all community hospitals in Cornwall during the pandemic with the aid of public donations. To continue to provide this crucial service, you can donate by visiting www.crowdfunder.co.uk/food4heroes-south-west or by texting F4HSW to 70191 to donate £10.
