The Greenbank Hotel are on the way to being Plastic Free
A plastic free hotel
Here at The Greenbank, the team are incredibly passionate about their environment – at home and at work. Which is why the teams are making some plastic free changes to the hotel for the better. The Greenbank hope to be an entirely plastic free hotel by 2025. Find out what we’ve done so far below:
Bedrooms
We’re so excited to announce that all bedrooms at The Greenbank offer plastic free alternatives. With glass water bottles and locally handmade ceramic toiletry bottles by Penryn potter Natalie Bonney, our hotel rooms boast very little plastic waste. In the Florence and Lookout Suites, we also offer compostable and eco-friendly coffee pods created by the Eden Project.
The Water’s Edge bar & THE WORKING BOAT PUB
Plastic straws have been eradicated throughout the hotel, with natural wheat alternatives. We work closely with our suppliers to ensure that our produce and goods are delivered with as little plastic as possible. We are also a part of Final Straw Cornwall and Plastic Free Falmouth, offering free refill water to stop those purchasing plastic water bottles from nearby shops.
Housekeeping
Our housekeeping team use plant-based chemicals from SURE Diversey that are 100% biodegradable, which is especially important being next to Falmouth harbour. They also use Innoscent cleaning products, which are eco-friendly, 100% natural, biodegradable, vegan and nontoxic.
Marketing
Wherever possible, we try to use recycled materials in all marketing products. For instance, our signage is made from recycled woods and use natural varnishes, and our paper is all recycled too.
recycling and staff training
Recycling bins and information sheets are placed in our housekeeping, kitchen, reception, bar and staff areas to educate the staff on what can be and can’t be recycled. We also host and attend training days for higher-level staff members, which are then relayed to all department teams.
community and beach cleans
We are very proud to have purchased a #2minutebeachclean board by The Working Boat’s beer garden for members of the public to use, with litter pickers and re-useable bags. We also host beach cleans twice a year alongside Surfers Against Sewage. This is a really great way to educate locals (and tourists that are staying with us) about plastic pollution.
