Ten Reasons You Should Visit The Working Boat

Established in 1876 and relaunched in 2015, The Working Boat was recently described by The Telegraph as a “Falmouth institution – a lively local, proud of its nautical roots.” And whilst we might be a tiny bit biased, we think you’ll be missing a trick if you don’t come down and see what it’s all about…

1. THE CRACKING VIEW:

Nestled along The Greenbank Quay and looking across the harbour to Flushing, we’re not afraid to say that our views are pretty much unbeatable. Spot the boats coming and going throughout the day, or head down at sunset to soak up the vivid colours of the sky shimmering on the water.

2. FOR A BEVVY (OR Two, or three):

When it comes to what we’re going to drink, we’re big fans of choice – which is why we stock a vast range of craft beers, local ales and ciders, as well as wines, spirits and soft drinks too. Be sure to sample a few pints of our very own Working Boat beer (5p of which goes to support the Falmouth Working Boats Association.)

3. FOR A SPOT OF GRUB:

With a focus on good, honest pub grub, our menu offers something for everyone. From classic fish and chips, to our cajun chicken burger and a melt-in-the-mouth steak focaccia. Not your thing? How about the Thai crab fishcakes, or our summer sharing pots? The desserts are just as indulgent too, with our cookie sandwich, Eton mess, and chocolate banana split among the offerings. Drooling yet? We thought so.

4. THE VIBE:

Rustically decked out to reflect its maritime heritage, The Working Boat has plenty of cosy nooks, board games, and bar stools pointing to our panoramic views. The new exterior decking area means more room for al fresco dining, whilst our undercover extension with heaters (and a basket of blankets) will keep you snug until late. We also host weekly Sunday quiz nights and music events (stay up to date with our Facebook page.)

5. we’re DOG friendly:

Exploring the Cornish coast with your four legged friend can be thirsty work, which is why you can relax knowing that all dogs are welcome at The Working Boat. Sit on our deck with a pint in hand and watch the boats bob by as your pooch chills out beside you. Doggie treats are on standby at the bar!

6. Moor Up and sink a few:

After a long day on the boat, what’s a better way to arrive than mooring up on our own private pontoon? Drop your anchor and fill your bellies before setting sail on your next adventure. Fancy drinking late into the evening? Make a night of it and stay over. Wake up to the sound of the sea, breathe in the fresh air and tuck into a hearty Cornish breakfast.

7. Families are welcome:

With crab buckets and crab lines available, we offer fun for all the family. Sit down for a hearty lunch before exploring the harbour’s wildlife, which is just a hop, skip and a jump from the pub. We also offer kid’s portions on most of our mains at half the price of each dish.

8. proud to be Award-Winning:

Being a finalist in this year’s Cornwall Life Food and Drink Awards as ‘pub of the year’, you can rely on us that we’ll provide the best quality service. Our friendly crew are on board to welcome you, where you can kick back and relax with a brew whilst you watch the evening sail by.

9. our Weekly specials:

With a special almost every day, our abundance of freshly cooked food will keep you coming back for more. On Wednesdays it’s a burger and beer for £9.95, on Fridays tuck into fish and chips for just £7.95, or enjoy our sandwich and soup special for £6.95 every weekday lunchtime. We’re also now rustling up brunch on Saturdays and Sundays – and don’t forget our famous Sunday roasts from midday until late.

10.Packed with History:

There has been a pub on the site of The Working Boat for more than 300 years. Originally used as The Greenbank’s tap room, it was frequented by oystermen who would refresh themselves after a long day out on the boat. This tradition continues today with the pub being the base for the Falmouth Working Boat Association, where you’ll find many of its members at the bar singing a shanty or two after racing each week.

So what are you waiting for? Come in and sink a few with us! We’re open every day from 10am until close. Please call 01326 314283 to book a table.
