Eights ways we’re banishing the winter blues
What’s on – CORNWALL hotel collection’s events
National lockdown, 10pm curfews, the magic number six, social distancing and happy birthday hand washing. 2020 has been a rollercoaster. Despite the anxious time we’re all living in, we are determined to bring some joy and positivity to a bleak situation.
We’ve worked hard as a team to come up with lots of fun things to do throughout the winter. We want to keep spirits high whilst still adhering to all the rules. So this is all about what you can do, rather than what you can’t. Banish the winter blues with our fun events going on at The Greenbank and sister hotel The Alverton this winter…
1. day drinking is the new ‘out out’
Now the 10pm curfew is in place, we’ve no choice but to embrace the day drinking! Get a little merry in the morning with our bottomless gin brunches. Tuck into a hearty breakfast and sip on homemade G&Ts to your heart’s content for just £30 per person.
2. escape the everyday with a murder mystery night
We could all do with a little light-hearted escapism at the moment. What better way to distract yourself from the news than a murder mystery? On 14th January The Greenbank will take a trip back in time to 1950s Egypt for the Murder on the Nile immersive dining experience. Dress up, tuck into a delicious three-course dinner and enjoy entertainment from talented Cornish theatre group Murder by Appointment. You’ll have to watch closely, note down all the clues and act as detective to crack the case.
Our sister hotel The Alverton also have a murder mystery night, perfect for fans of Peaky Blinders. Join them in The Great Hall on 22nd January 2021 for the ‘Peeky Blinders’ dinner party, and don your best flat caps, waistcoats and flapper dresses.
3. social distance dining al fresco
We are so lucky to be perched on the harbour wall with plenty of picturesque outdoor spots to breathe in the fresh air and dine al fresco. Social distancing is guaranteed and the views are unbeatable on our quayside terrace. On a crisp wintery day when the water is bathed in warm sunlight, we can’t think of a more perfect spot to wrap up warm and catch up with loved ones over hot coffee, hearty food from our winter menu or a few indulgent tipples.
4. christmas isn’t cancelled!
The most wonderful time of the year is going to be a little different for 2020, there’s no denying that. However, the festivities of the yuletide season will not go amiss at The Greenbank. If ever we needed a few glasses of mulled wine, a tinselled tree and carols galore, it would be now! Escape to the coast with our magical Christmas breaks and make unforgettable memories with your nearest and dearest. For holly jolly get togethers of up to six, our seasonal afternoon tea, leisurely festive lunches and intimate Christmas evenings are a must for making the most of the merriments.
5. treat yourself to a cosy cornish retreat at the alverton
Visit our sister hotel in Truro for a Cosy Cornish Retreat this winter. Cocooned on the outskirts of the city, The Alverton’s stunning grade II listed building, nineteenth century features, manicured gardens and exquisite food all makes for an enchanting escape. The Cosy Cornish Retreat includes rooms for two from just £119 with a hearty Cornish breakfast and two-course dinner in their award-winning restaurant. 6. cosy up at the working boat
A night at the pub is still achievable this winter. And looking on the positive side, with table service in place all you have to do is relax and let us wait on you. Down at The Working Boat, Executive Chef Nick Hodges has crafted a moreish menu of winter warmers and comforting cuisine this season. Book a table of up to six for smooth brews, harbour views and scrummy pub grub. For table bookings, give the team a call on 01326 314283.
7. add some sparkle to your afternoon
Curb the curfew and take your time with an unhurried Cornish afternoon tea at the Water’s Edge. As normal rules don’t apply anymore, why not add some sparkle to your day by treating yourself to a glass of Champagne? If bubbles aren’t your thing, we can whip you up a Greenbank-infused G&T, or you can try our festive afternoon tea, complete with mulled wine. And don’t miss our bottomless prosecco afternoon teas for the full experience. Cheers to that!
