1st – 31st May: Workshops at Trebah Gardens

Where: Trebah Gardens, Falmouth

From botanical lino printing, morning meditation classes, and wild jewellery workshops, to Cornwall’s International Male Choral Festival and the Bird Box Bingo Trail – discover a whole host of new hobbies to try and things to do at Trebah Gardens this May.

1st – 31st May: Cocktail Club at the Water’s Edge

Where: The Greenbank, Falmouth

The clink of ice as it hits the glass. That first sip by the ocean. Sinking into a laidback haze. Start your weekend the right way at our Cocktail Club. Every Friday from 5pm enjoy two drinks for £12. Served by rising stars in the cocktail world, our expertly trained mixologists live and breathe perfect pours, impressive garnishes, and flavour combinations.

1st – 16th May: The Massive Tragedy of Madame Bovary

Where: The Minack Theatre, Porthcurno

A comical twist on Gustave Flaubert’s controversial and beloved 1856 novel – The Massive Tragedy of Madame Bovary is a shake up of the complex novel about the mundanity felt in the marriage of protagonist Emma Bovary.

Performed on the cliff-top stage of the Minack Theatre, enjoy the production by Ha Hum Ah theatre company to the backdrop of the west Cornish waters and white sands of Porthcurno.

2nd May: The Magic of Spring – A Journaling Workshop

Where: The Working Boat, Falmouth

Practice gratitude and mindfulness as you take pen to paper to scribble, doodle, and draw your inner thoughts at Journal For Joy’s spring workshop. Hosted by The Working Boat, share the morning with a group of friendly, like-minded people as you follow along with founder Hannah’s journaling techniques and prompts for getting creative with words.

Weather permitting, the session will be hosted in the Greenbank Gardens, overlooking the bobbing boats and shimmering waters of the harbour. Tickets are on sale now for £35, including the workshop, a hearty-filled sandwich for lunch, and a hot drink.

8th May: Helston Flora Day

Where: Helston

Our guide to what’s on in Cornwall this May wouldn’t be complete without including this annual tradition. Every year in May, the streets of Helston come alive at this joyous day festival that celebrates the blossoming of spring and bids ‘good riddance’ to the cold, dark months of winter. Expect an abundance of flowers, brightly dressed locals and couples dancing in the streets at this lively get-together that attracts tens of thousands of people every year.

21st May: FalFilmFest

Where: The Poly, Falmouth

Film fans won’t want to miss out on this one-day festival, hosted at Falmouth’s historic, nineteenth century arts venue. FalFilmFest will be showcasing the best of fresh new talent in the media industry, with independent short films created by Falmouth University’s Film & Television students.

25th May – 2nd June: Festival of Imagination at The Eden Project

Where: The National Maritime Museum, Falmouth

Entertain your little ones this half term with the National Maritime Museum’s newest underwater-themed exhibition. Delve into the rock pools in search of curious creatures and hidden aquatic treasures to learn more about the marine life in our local waters. Discover fun facts on the museum trail, before letting off some steam in the Skull Island Play Zone.

25th May – 2nd June: Open Studios

Where: Cornwall

Once again that distinctive trail of orange Os invites us to peep behind the scenes of some of Cornwall’s most talented artists as they throw open their doors for Open Studios. Sneak a glimpse into secret studio worlds as they share their skills, processes and creative experiences.
