: North Cornwall Book Festival
1ST – 30TH sEPTEMBER: NORTH CORNWALL BOOK FESTIVAL
Where: online virtual event
The North Cornwall Book Festival is going virtual this year! Like many of Cornwall’s events, things are a bit different this year. But the organisers of this popular literary celebration are determined to mark the occasion. Each Friday in September at 5pm the book festival will be releasing short films. Each will give a sneak peek into the authors’ lives and works, who were originally part of the line-up. Filmed from their homes, discover how the pandemic has affected their writing, receive insider tips and enjoy recitals from new pieces.
If you’d like to catch the live show, many of the authors will also be appearing at the 2021 festival.
: KneeHigh Walk With Me
1st – 30th September: KNEEHIGH WALK WITH ME
Where: various locations in Cornwall
Get walking this September with award-winning theatre company KneeHigh’s fun app. Combining Cornish walks with brilliant stories, download the Walk With Me app for free. Listen to tales inspired by local residents’ knowledge on the history of Cornwall and bring your walks to life. The app uses GPS to trigger different plots and themes when you walk in specific locations. Currently, you can use Walk With Me in St Austell, The Eden Project, Perranporth, Mevagissey, Newquay, Bodmin, Helston and The Great Flat Lode.

: Minack Theatre
2nd – 6th september: MISCHIEF MOVIE NIGHT, the minack theatre, porthcurno
Where: 1 hour drive from The Greenbank
Theatre group Mischief are excited to return to The Minack Stage this September. This is a stage show with a difference, as you are the director. Choose the genre, location and title of the performance and be amazed as the talented group improvise a comedy performance. We couldn’t think of a prettier venue, at the Minack Theatre which overlooks Porthcurno Beach.
4TH SEPTEMBER: TRURO SCHOOL COOKERY FRIDAY NIGHT, TRURO
Where: 20 minute drive from The Greenbank
How were your cooking skills during lockdown? If you’re in need of some extra help, or simply want to add some new dishes to your culinary repertoire, Truro School Cookery can help. Their popular Friday night cooking classes are back.
All socially distanced with limited spaces available, you can safely enjoy learning new tips for the kitchen. Sip on a glass of fizz upon arrival, watch the chefs demonstrate how to whip up the chosen three-course menu and take notes. Then it’s your turn to get cooking. Try recreating tasty cuisine, sample your creations and take the recipes home. You won’t even have to do the dishes!
: Helston Farmers’ Market
5th september: HELSTON FARMERS’ MARKET, the old cattle market
Where: 30 minute drive from The Greenbank
Head to Helston Farmers’ Market on the first Saturday of every month from 9:30am until 1pm. Support local and browse the freshest Cornish produce, from home-baked bread to artisan cheeses and award-winning gin. In line with the government guidelines, all shoppers will be required to wear a mask. There will also be a one-way system and plenty of social distancing.
Pop down, have a browse and chat with the local farmers, suppliers and business owners at this month’s market.
: Newquay Fish Festival
13th september: NEWQUAY FISH FESTIVAL
Where: online virtual event
The much-loved Newquay Fish Festival is going digital this year. The popular event that celebrates the fishing industry in Cornwall and talented chefs in the county will take place online rather than at Newquay Harbour. On Friday 11th September there will be a cook-a-long show, followed by the full virtual festival on 13th September.

: Paradise Park Wildlife Sanctuary
19th – 20th september: RED PANDAS AT PARADISE PARK, hayle
Where: 40 minute drive from The Greenbank
2020 has been a tough year so far. But if there’s one thing that will guarantee to put a smile on your face, it’s visiting the adorable red pandas at Paradise Park. This September, the wildlife sanctuary in Hayle are supporting Red Panda Network, a charity to help these endangered creatures. Fun for all the family, head over to Hayle and become a “red panda ranger”.
