EVENTS IN CORNWALL THIS OCTOBER
Autumn has officially landed! Time to get snug, prepare to set the clocks back an hour and swap smoothies for hearty soups, sandals for boots and lazy days at the beach for brisk walks by the coast.
There are plenty of fun events in Cornwall this October to keep the whole family entertained. Sample the best of local cuisine at mouth-watering food and drink festivals across the county, sit front row at Truro’s annual fashion show and celebrate Halloween with frightfully fun half term events for both kids and grown-ups too! 9TH OCTOBER: TRURO TREND 2019 CATWALK AT THE CATHEDRAL, TRURO CATHEDRAL
Where: 30 minute drive from The Greenbank
Visit Cornwall’s capital city on the 9th October and sit front row at Truro’s annual fashion show. Taking place in the breath-taking cathedral, Catwalk at the Cathedral showcases the best of local fashion, hair and beauty. Last year’s event was a sell-out success, with over 600 people attending to admire the looks modelled on the catwalk. Get inspired with this season’s hottest trends.
6th, 13th, 20th and 27th october: PUB QUIZZES AT THE WORKING BOAT PUB, falmouth

Our infamous pub quizzes are continuing throughout October. If you’ve not been before, expect tasty pub grub, lots of local tipples and plenty of prizes to be won. Our chosen charity of the month is Penryn and Falmouth Food Bank. The pub quizzes are free to enter, but a suggested optional donation of £1 is greatly appreciated.
9th – 13th october: FALMOUTH OYSTER FESTIVAL, events square, falmouth
Where: 10 minute drive from The Greenbank
Celebrate the start of the oyster dredging season at the 23rd Falmouth Oyster Festival this October. The native Fal oyster is a local delicacy, and from the 9th-13th October, the town’s Events Square will be bustling with food and craft stalls, live music and chef demos. Our very own Executive Chef Nick Hodges will be showing off his seafood expertise, so make sure you catch him down at the tent.
11th – 31st october: TRURO SCHOOL COOKERY COURSES, truro
Where: 25 minute drive from The Greenbank
Check out what tasty treats Truro School Cookery are offering this month on their bespoke cookery courses. From classic Cornish recipes to Indian-inspired dishes, there’s a class for every cuisine. 12th october: THE ALVERTON’S BEER AND CORNISH DRINKS FESTIVAL, the alverton hotel, truro
Where: 30 minute drive from The Greenbank
Beer, gin, rum and fizz. The Alverton Hotel are celebrating the best of Cornwall’s breweries and distilleries at their Beer and Cornish Drinks Festival. Nestled on the outskirts of Truro city, the historic hotel’s Great Hall will play host to local drinks suppliers. Expect to see Jubel, Keltek, Healeys Cyder, St Ives Gin, Cornish Distilling Co. and our Working Boat pub, alongside many more. With a rustic feast and lots of live music from the likes of Will Keating, The Roosters and Mog Jones, it’s a must-attend for beer buffs and spirit connoisseurs.
17th october: CREATIVE INDUSTRIES FAIR, tate, st ives
Where: 1 hour drive from The Greenbank
Want to know more about a career in the creative industries? Tate museum in St Ives are hosting an event for young people in Cornwall to explore the different avenues for achieving their goals at the Creative Industries Fair. Expect drop-in activities, information stalls, hands-on workshops and talks from key speakers of local businesses, artists and educational reps.
19th october: MURDER ON THE DANCE FLOOR, the alverton hotel, truro
Where: 30 minute drive from The Greenbank
Fancy yourself the next Sherlock Holmes? The Alverton Hotel in Truro have a murder mystery on their hands that needs solving! On the 19th October, the cast of popular talent show ‘Strict Lee Come Dancing’ are hosting a VIP dinner and dance and you are all invited. Dress up in your glad rags, dine on a decadent three-course meal and watch as the drama on the dance floor unfolds. Will you be able to solve the whodunit case?
19th – 27th october: HALLOWEEN HORRORS AT NEWQUAY ZOO, newquay
Where: 45 minute drive from The Greenbank
There are so many events in Cornwall this October half term, and Newquay Zoo’s Halloween Horrors is one of them. Get up close and personal with creepy crawlies, head off on a bewitching bat hunt and show off your best fancy dress. Are you brave enough to face the spooky spectacles that await?
19th – 3rd october: HALLOWEDEN, the eden project, st austell
Where: 1 hour 5 minute drive from The Greenbank
The Eden Project has been cursed and transformed into Halloweden over the October half term. The forbidden forest welcomes brave explorers to enter at their own risk. Carve a creepy pumpkin, meet the owls visiting from Screech Owl Sanctuary, and have a go at brewing a magical potion with mysterious botanicals. On Saturday 26th, attend The Little Monsters’ Ball and dance the night away at the Mediterranean biome disco, or test your skating skills on the bone-chilling ice-rink. Don’t forget your fearsome fancy dress!
21st – 27th october: SHADOW AND SILHOUETTES, national maritime museum CORNWALL, falmouth
Where: 10 minute drive from The Greenbank
The National Maritime Museum in Falmouth have a unique Halloween performance from vertical dance company, Yskynna. ‘The Girl and her Shadow’ is an intimate performance that tells a tale of reflection, aspiration and adventure using aerial dance. As well as this enchanting show, the NMMC have lots of other spook-tacular activities including lantern making and a shadow trail throughout the museum.
23rd october: HALLOWEEN TRICKS AND TREATS FIREWORK SPECTACULAR, flambards, helston
Where: 25 minute drive from The Greenbank
Turn your attention to the skies at Flambards during the Halloween period. Start the day by indulging your inner thrill seeker on the adrenaline-inducing rides. Explore the Victorian Village pumpkin trail, and end the night with a bang at the Firework Spectacular.
25TH AND 26TH OCTOBER: GHOST TOURS, PENDENNIS CASTLE, FALMOUTH
Where: 15 minute drive from The Greenbank
Pendennis Castle has stood proudly on Falmouth’s headland since the Tudor times, and the stone walls have witnessed a lot of history. But are you brave enough to walk the grounds after dark? Storytellers at Henry VIII’s old coastal fortress are offering ghost tours at the end of the month to share the tales of supernatural sighting and horrifying history. Opt for the family friendly tours at 6pm and 7pm, or take on the 8pm adult only tour deemed not for the faint-hearted.
