Christmas is coming to town this December in Cornwall. ‘Tis the season to let your hair down and enjoy Christmas festivals, brilliant theatre and wonderful light displays. Here’s our guide to your December in Cornwall…
1st – 30th December: EDEN’S FESTIVAL OF CHRISTMAS, the eden project, st austell
Where: 1 hour drive from The Greenbank
December in Cornwall is welcomed in style by The Eden Project‘s Festival of Christmas. There’s oodles of yuletide cheer at one of Cornwall’s most famous attractions. Listen to a glittering chorus of local musicians as they perform festive sets in the Mediterranean biome. Sip on mulled wine, dance to a wonderful brass band and rock around the Christmas tree. The ice-rink is also back for those who want to strap on their skates. Show off some new yuletide knitwear at the Christmas Jumper Swap Shop, and embrace the magic of Christmas with friends and family.
1st – 31st december: FESTIVE LUNCHES AND AFTERNOON TEA, the greenbank, falmouth

Here at The Greenbank, we have decked the halls and mulled the wine in preparation for Christmas time. Gather with your loved ones and share fabulous festive food and Christmas tipples at the Water’s Edge. Our festive lunches start from just £18 per person for three courses, or for something to sweeten up your day, try our festive afternoon tea. Three-tiers of yuletide delights await.
1st December – 2nd january: TOWN CHRISTMAS TREASURE HUNT, st ives
Where: 1 hour drive from The Greenbank
Something rather wondrous is occurring in St Ives this December. As you peruse the shops searching for stocking fillers and Christmas gifts, keep your eyes peeled for hidden treasure. Mysterious cards proclaiming “Mistletoe”, “Pantomime”, “Snowflake” and more have been distributed throughout the town. With some great prizes to be won, the hunt is on.
4th – 5th december: A CORNISH CAROL THEATRE SHOW, the poly, falmouth
Where: 5 minute drive from The Greenbank
Head down to The Poly in Falmouth for a truly Cornish adaptation on Dickens’ Christmas classic. Over the course of one miserable, mizzly, Cornish night, join Scrooge and a gaggle of ghostly ghouls who force him to revisit his PAST(y), explore his (Ker)NOW and decide if his FUTURE will Come-to-Good. It’s sure to be a show to remember!
5th december: HALL FOR CORNWALL’S CHRISTMAS CONCERT, royal cornwall museum, truro
Where: 30 minute drive from The Greenbank
The Hall For Cornwall are putting on a beautifully festive Christmas concert. Hosted by the Royal Cornwall Museum, revel in yuletide song and dance as Truro gets well and truly merry!
6th – 14th december: CORNWALL HOSPICE CARE’S SANTA RUNS, cornwalL
Where: throughout Cornwall
Santa Claus is coming to town. The famous Santa Fun Run is back, so expect to see lots of sprinting Santas rushing through various towns in Cornwall this December. Apart from being great fun, the aim of the event is to raise money for Cornwall Hospice Care, a charity that supports terminally ill adults in Cornwall. Santa suits are provided for free and extra decoration is encouraged, whether it’s tinsel, lights or festive deely-boppers – go Christmas crazy!
7th december: PONSANOOTH CHRISTMAS BEER FESTIVAL, the stag hunt inn
Where: 10 minute drive from The Greenbank
It’s the most wonderful time for a beer! Celebrate the start of Christmas at Ponsanooth’s Christmas Beer Festival hosted in The Stag Hunt Inn. The pub in the heart of the village will have lots of tasty winter warmers, mulled ale and bottled beer gift packs to start your festive shopping. Join the Stag Hunt from 12pm and don’t forget to head outside for the Christmas lights switch on later that evening.
7th december: ST IVES LANTERN PARADE, st ives
Where: 1 hour drive from The Greenbank
Starting at The Guildhall, as darkness falls at 6pm on the 7th December, a magical parade commences. Bring the whole family to St Ives, and watch the winding streets illuminate and sparkle under the light of stunning lanterns.
14th – 31st december: mousehole lights display, mousehole harbour, penzance
Where: 1 hour drive from The Greenbank
There are so many spots for checking out Christmas lights in Cornwall. However, Mousehole’s harbour display is one of the county’s most-loved light spectaculars, and visitors flock to the fishing village every year to admire its beauty. With a warming tipple from the mulled wine stall in hand it’s hard not to feel the Cornish Christmas spirit in Mousehole during December.
16th and 17th december: WREATH MAKING WORKSHOPS, the greenbank hotel, falmouth
Where: in our purple lounge area
Deck the halls with something homemade this Christmas. Our wonderful florist Lindsay is hosting wreath making workshops this December. All the materials locally grown from Chycara are included, as well as a glass of prosecco on arrival, so all you need to bring along is a pair of sharp scissors and some festive spirit.
19th december: THE WORKING BOAT’S MINI CHRISTMAS FESTIVAL, falmouth
Where: downstairs in our pub
On the 19th December, all through the pub, expect festive cheer, and lots of yuletide grub. With Christmas carols and gift stalls galore, free mince pies, craft workshops and more…
21st december – 5th january: LANTERNS AND LIGHTS, the national maritime museum, falmouth
Where: 5 minute drive from The Greenbank
The National Maritime Museum will be taking on the theme of ‘Lanterns and Lights’ this Christmas. Expect creative workshops, nautical light trails and magnificent boats decorated like Christmas trees.
25th and 26th december: christmas swims in cornwall
Where: various beaches throughout Cornwall
There’s nothing like a refreshing dip in the ocean to remind you it’s December in Cornwall. On Christmas Day or Boxing Day, get ready to embrace the sea and share this special Cornish tradition with friends, family and your local community. 26th december: NEAR-TA THEATRE PRESENTS “CHRISTMAS.TIME”, the alverton hotel, truro
Where: 30 minute drive from The Greenbank
Near-ta Theatre will be bringing plenty of Christmas cheer to our sister hotel The Alverton in Truro, with their yuletide comedy ‘Christmas.Time’. Hosted in the impressive Great Hall, get ready to laugh your festive socks off. The show begins at 6:30pm and tickets are available through Eventbrite.
31st december: NEW YEAR’S EVE AT THE WORKING BOAT, falmouth
Where: downstairs in our pub
We’d love to celebrate the start of 2020 with you at our Working Boat pub. Cheers to the new year in style with a glass of fizz upon arrival followed by a fantastic five-course set menu created from the pub favourites over the last year. If you just want to join us for a drink, no problem! The Working Boat is free as always to celebrate with a Cornish tipple or three.
