There’s lots to do in Cornwall this October…
Although the weather is getting cooler and the nights are starting to draw in, there’s still lots of things to do in Cornwall this October to keep you busy. From foodie festivals and literary events, to the long-awaited return of Hall for Cornwall and some spook-tacular fun, we’ve put together our top things for you to enjoy next month.
1st – 3rd October: Truro food festival
Where: 20 minute drive from The Greenbank
Try a true taste of Cornwall thanks to the highly anticipated return of Truro Food Festival. Head to Lemon Quay at the start of October to enjoy a food-tastic weekend of events. Enjoy delicious cuisines, discover your new favourite artisan makers, then head over to the Chef’s Theatre to get in on the culinary action too.
While you’re there, don’t forget to catch our Executive Chef Nick Hodges demonstrating a delicious dish of poached lemon sole for his own Chef’s Theatre slot at 3pm on Sunday. He’ll also be introducing up and coming local talent at 4pm on Friday and Saturday too!
1st October: ‘taste of truro’ at the alverton, truro
Where: 20 minute drive from The Greenbank
If you’re left feeling inspired after watching Nick’s demo, our sister hotel The Alverton is giving festival goers and foodie fanatics the chance to indulge in his delicious dish and four other courses at their inaugural ‘Taste of Truro‘ evening. This intimate event will be a tantalising evening consisting of five courses prepared by Nick and Head Chef Erkki. It will also include demos from Annie Sibert from My Fish Kitchen and an expert cheese talk from James Greet, owner of The Greet Cheese Delivery co, as well.
Tickets are £60 and £25 for an additional wine flight selected by expert sommelier Yohann Thuillier. Tickets can be booked here.

1st – 17th October: Everyman by miracle theatre, Various locations
Where: dotted all over Cornwall
Live theatre is back with a bang this autumn, with the help of Miracle Theatre. Join the popular South West stage production company for an immersive show experience like no other. The Carol Ann Duffy classic ‘Everyman’ has been brought to life and is arriving to some of Cornwall’s top theatrical venues including the Eden Project as well as the Royal Cornwall Showground. This classic tale of morality is a fantastic watch thanks to the use of live music, multi-media, choreography as well as a high-energy cast of four.

10th October: eden marathon and half marathon, st Austell
Where: 50 minute drive from The Greenbank
Whether you’re a keen runner or prefer to cheer on from the sidelines, don’t miss out on the Eden Project Marathon. Head to the award-winning biomes in St Austell for a day of racing celebrations, where thousands of runners will take to the Eden Project’s winding paths for Cornwall’s biggest running event. The course offers challenging multi-terrain tracks around its famous site, therefore making this a unique running event. If you decide to take to the track, you’ll be treated to a free pasty when you cross the finish line too.

13th – 30th october: Fisherman’s friends musical at hall for Cornwall, truro
Where: 20 minutes from The Greenbank
Don’t miss out on the biggest theatrical event in Cornwall’s 2021 calendar. Head to the newly refurbished Hall for Cornwall, to watch the debut of Fishermen’s Friends: The Musical. This fantastic musical is based on the true story of Cornwall’s top shanty singing sensations and the 2019 box office hit of the same name too.
This truly Cornish tale of friendship, community and music will be available to watch throughout October. Tickets are selling fast, but you can purchase the remaining ones here.
14th – 17th october: Falmouth Book Festival
Where: 5 minute walk from The Greenbank
No matter your genre of choice, book lovers alike will not want to miss out on Falmouth’s first-ever Book Festival. During this week-long event, expect to hear from some of the country’s top authors including Raynor Winn and Max Porter during some insightful literary talks. Then brush up on your writing skills by getting stuck into a variety of workshops run by a few talented names.

11th – 24th October: camra kernow Falmouth Real Ale Trail, Falmouth
Where: at The Working Boat and around town
Beer and cider heads alike would be hard-pressed to miss out on this beer-tastic event. This October, 24 venues in Falmouth will be supplying super smooth brews from some of the UK’s top breweries. Our pub downstairs, The Working Boat, will also be serving up some top beers as part of the trail. So make sure to pay them a visit as you make your way around the town.

23rd – 31st october: Silhouettes and shadows, national maritime museum
Where: 20 minute walk from The Greenbank
Little ones will love getting involved in some spook-tacular fun this October half-term with the help of the National Maritime Museum. As part of their school holiday schedule, Silhouettes and Shadows will encourage kids and adults alike to uncover all of the scary sea spirits who have invaded the museum. There will also be lots of crafting opportunities as well to get your creative juices flowing.

24th – 28th october: horrible histories, minack theatre
Where: 60 minute drive from The Greenbank
Learning has never been more fun thanks to this fantastical theatrical event. Cornwall’s most jaw-droppingly beautiful venue will be welcoming back the team behind the award-winning Horrible Histories with their latest show ‘Gorgeous Georgians and Vile Victorians’. This is a gruesomely funny event not to be missed.
