What To Do in Cornwall Over The Summer Holidays

Class is dismissed! The school summer holidays are finally here, meaning six weeks of fun awaits. If you’re spending the summer holidays in Cornwall you’ll be spoiled for choice on activities and events throughout the county. From strawberry picking and open air theatre shows to unmissable boat trips – Cornwall has something for all ages.

24th july – 3rd SEPTEMBER: A PIRATE’S LIFE FOR ME! at the NMMC, falmouth

Where: 20 minute walk from The Greenbank

Take your little ones along to The National Maritime Museum’s interactive theatre show ‘A Pirate’s Life For Me’ this summer. You’ll explore the lives of pirates and get the chance to decide what happens to your crew. From choosing a captain to looting for riches, spin the wheel of fortune and decide the fate of your ship and its crew. What’s more, there’ll be Make & Take sessions with the chance to create pirate hats, telescopes and everything else you need to master your very best pirate look.

This is a free event included in the general admission to the museum.

ALL SUMMER: PICK YOUR OWN AT TREVASKIS FARM, hayle

Where: 35 minute drive from The Greenbank

Choose from locally grown fruit and vegetables and enjoy a fun family day out picking fresh produce at Trevaskis Farm. With free entry to the farm, you only have to pay for what you pick! From raspberries to strawberries and redcurrants to broad beans, you’re spoiled for choice. It’s a great activity to get the children outdoors and excited about fruit and veg.

Varius dates through the summer: SQUASHBOX THEATRE at TREBAH GARDEN, near falmouth

Where: 15 minute drive from The Greenbank

This summer, deep in the heart of Trebah’s tropical gardens, you’ll find mermaids, giants and wizards as Trebah plays host to the magical Squashbox Theatre. Preformed by local actor, puppeteer and musician Craig Johnson, the show is a quirky and hilarious mix of puppet show, natural history and comedy cabaret. ALL SUMMER: SUMMER ON ST MICHAEL’S MOUNT, Marazion

Where: 50 minute drive from The Greenbank

Visit the iconic St Michael’s Mount on Marazion’s famous landmark. Celebrate the history of one of Cornwall’s most iconic attractions by heading over by boat and taking in the incredible scenery, however, make sure you check out the tide times before heading over. You might be lucky enough to use the hidden pathway, only uncovered in low tide.

24th – 28th August: Cornwall folk festival, wadebridge

Where: 60 minute drive from The Greenbank

Taking place over the bank holiday weekend, The Folk Festival is celebrating its 50th anniversary in true Cornish style. Head to Wadebridge for some foot-stomping fun, Cornish language workshops and live music, with a pint of Cornish beer (or something non-alcoholic!) in hand of course. 26th – 28th august: GEEKFEST at Heartlands, Redruth

Where: 30 minute drive from The Greenbank

Now in its seventh year, this comic con style event is guaranteed to impress! Think cosplay competitions, movie props, combat zones, live music and even dragons. Taking place at local heritage site Heartlands, this event is perfect for younger ones and the young at heart. Don’t forget to bring plenty of pocket money as there’ll be an array of local traders selling everything from Pokemon cards to lightsabers. Get geeking!
