Things to do this half term for all the family
So the children are off from school once again in February, with structure and routine flying out the window. Luckily, Cornwall has many things to offer for all the family to enjoy this year. With a whole host of special events lined up, we share with you our top five things to do this half term.
Science of the sea: National Maritime Museum, falmouth
Discover the wonderful world of chemistry through the everyday life of water. You and your family can explore the dome’s expert-led science show. Expect entertaining demonstrations and audience interactions – volunteers required! Liquid nitrogen and dry ice go beyond water to explore solids, liquids and gases and the very stuff of matter. This gives people of all ages a hands-on experience of science, with a chance to meet researchers from the Penryn campus.
Passport to the world: eden project, st austell
This half term you can visit five continents in one day for the adventure of a lifetime. Pick up your passport at the Eden Project and collect stamps from all corners of the globe whilst trying your hand at new and exotic challenges. Explore the wobbly rainforest bridge, join in with a flamenco workshop or learn survival skills by shooting a blow pipe. You may even come across a digeridoo player!
Love Nature: The Lost Gardens of Heligan, Pentewan
Search for the lost nest of ‘Robin Redbreast’, get twitching in the hide and enjoy some close up views of Cornish bird life at the Lost Gardens of Heligan. Connect with the wonderful world of nature and marvel at the creativity of Falmouth University students, as they reveal their ‘Natural History Photographic Exhibtion’, inspired by the gardens.
Training the troops: pendennis castle, falmouth
Join the castle’s drill sergeant for the day and step back to the time of the Second World War. You’ll be put through your paces in the castle’s obstacle course this year. Walk the plank, crawl through tunnels and see if you have what it takes to defend a castle in this lively activity the whole family can compete in.
Get Creative with Colour: Glendurgan gardens, near falmouth
This month, become inspired with the bright colours of Glendurgan gardens. Use the garden’s colour wheel for this ‘fun for all the family’ trail and see if you can spot the first signs of spring. There are three valleys of Glendurgan to lose yourself in – full of natural beauty and amazing plants.
CHILDREN’S AFTERNOON TEA: The Greenbank Hotel, falmouth
For this one, you don’t even need to leave the hotel! Our Children’s Afternoon Tea acts as the perfect refuel after a morning running around on Greenbank beach. And even better, there’s a grown-up version for the adults to indulge in too.
