Fistral beach

Where: 45 minute drive from The Greenbank

A simple five minute walk from Newquay town centre, Fistral beach picks up any north or northwest swell and breaks in clean punchy lines making the finest wave. If the swell is at least six foot in height, you can guarantee the townsfolk will be out in their winter wetsuits, making the most of what the surf has to offer.

Praa Sands

Where: 35 minute drive from The Greenbank

An old south coast favourite for when the winds swing north, Praa Sands doesn’t disappoint. The bigger swells and northwest to northeast winds make it the perfect winter venue, creating hollow and fast waves. Those in the know will make time to travel to this beach simply for the guaranteed best surf.

Porthleven beach

Where: 30 minute drive from The Greenbank

One of the most renowned and respected breaks in the UK, this south coast spot is a short and powerful right hand reef. Promising a south westerly swell, once you’ve mastered the basics you won’t be able to stop going back.

Perranuthnoe beach

Where: 40 minute drive from The Greenbank

Longboarders’ heaven, Perranuthnoe offers similar waves as Praa Sands with a calmer vibe for those that are looking for a good spot for a more relaxing session. Top tip: avoid going at high tide, as most of the beach disappears making entry and exit a little tricky with a board in hand!

Gwithian beach

Where: 35 minute drive from The Greenbank

Possibly the best beach for beginners who want to learn how to surf, Gwithian offers a long stretch of open water giving enough space for everyone to catch a decent wave. With the more experienced sticking nearer to Godrevy beach, this leaves Gwithian for the dedicated novice to hone in on their skills.

So whether you’re an experienced surfer or a newbie in search of the best surf, Cornwall has the widest range of beaches to suit all levels.
