Summertime Fun in Falmouth

Hoorah! Summer is here and we have lots to celebrate following the launch of our new Water’s Edge restaurant, the new pontoons at the hotel and our upcoming Working Boat.

But for now, here are our top 10 fun things to do in Falmouth for the summer:

Make a sandcastle

OK, this never gets old! Spending a day at the beach is the most fun way to spend a day in Falmouth. Nearby Gyllyngvase is lovely and sandy and perfect for taking a dip too! Roll out the windbrake, put the swimsuit on and head to Gylly for a day of relaxation. For lunch either eat at the Gylly Beach Café, the takeaway bar on the beach (for sausage and chips or a traditional Cornish Roskilly’s ice cream) or ask reception for a packed lunch, courtesy of our fantastic kitchen team – switch off, unplug and spend a day watching the waves!

Browse the boutiques

Go shopping in the local boutiques in Falmouth town. Explore the local art galleries, the jewellery boutiques, clothing shops and retro antique caverns. Make sure you’re back in time from souvenir hunting to enjoy a sharing paddle for two on the terrace in the sun!

Get Festival Fabulous

If you can, make sure you visit for Falmouth Week. A real highlight in the local calendar, Falmouth Week has sailing, carnival celebrations, firework displays and live music every evening, it’s a sure reason to visit in August but be warned, rooms book quickly!

Ferry across the River

Take a ferry to St Mawes and enjoy a day of exploring this local village.  The perfect Cornish experience and full of authentic cream teas and quirky gift shops, on a sunny day, it’s the best day out!

Go Dolphin Spotting

There is nowhere better to be in Falmouth than on the water in the summer. Hire a boat, go paddle-boarding or surfing or, our favourite – look for dolphins with Orca Sea Safaris.  These boat trips are awe-inspiring and a fabulous day for all of the family to see whales, dolphins, seals and sea-life around the Falmouth coast.

Cliff-Jump

Looking for something a bit more adventurous? Try your hand at coasteering! Gylly Adventures at Gllyngvase will take you on a magical mystery tour of the cliff paths and show you the highs and (underwater) lows of ducking, diving and making a splash – not for the faint hearted but certainly for families looking for fun!

Visit Trebah

Trebah has been voted one of the leading gardens in the world with good reason! Spend a day exploring the incredible rare trees, the flora and fauna of this stunning landscape before working your way down to the private beach and enjoying a Cornish ice cream watching the water. Head back on the uphill walk (making sure to stop at the Monet-esque bridge and take the obligatory “we visited Trebah” photo) before wandering through the magical botanical trail to the Planters Café for a post-walk refreshment!

Enjoy a Pedicure

The perfect way to kick-start your summer, treat yourself to a pretty pedicure! There is nothing like perfect polished toes in summer sandals to make you feel lighter and brighter, it should be a holiday essential! Our beauty therapist Hannah can be booked in advance for that much-deserved pamper – Bliss!

A round of Golf

Why not book a round of golf at the Falmouth Golf Club. 18 holes of stunning green to putt, drive and chip, enjoy the most stunning sea views from the fairway.  Alternatively, for those who are more Elle Woods than Tiger Woods, why not make it a game of Crazy Golf at Swanpool? A bit of fun and right next to the beach for an ice cream when you finish! Winner buys the ice cream!

Feed the Ducks

Speaking of Swanpool, you have to visit Swanpool Lake and feed the resident ducks (and the stunning swans). Take a stroll around the lake and let the hours pass by as you perch on a bench and enjoy the view – sometimes it really is the small things….
