Summer in Falmouth – things to do
We love Falmouth in the summer, there is nowhere better when the sun is shining and the beaches are full of happy families eating ice cream and swimming in the sea. We’ve put together some of our top ideas for things to do when visiting the Greenbank this summer:
Falmouth Week
Falmouth Week is one of the greatest events in the Falmouth calendar. Held between 7th – 16th August, it’s the second largest regatta in the UK with around 250 yachts racing and a lively shoreside programme of daytime and evening entertainment including live music, culminating in a firework display. It is a really great time to visit Falmouth and get into the celebratory spirit!
Go to the Beach
Falmouth has so many beaches at our fingertips. Whether the sandy stretch of Gyllyngvase, the locals choice that is Swanpool (try a Hedgehog ice cream at the café), the beauty and expanse of Maenporth or the small yet perfect Castle Beach. We even have our own hotel beach, perfect for an afternoon stroll, a bit of reading or somewhere to run Fido.
Explore the shops
Falmouth has some beautiful and independent boutiques. Have a stroll through the high street and check out some of our favourites such as Sweetpea & Betty for incredible French-inspired home décor, the Falmouth Bookseller, Just Like This for quirky throwback fashion, Stones Bakery for a fresh pastry whilst you wander or Willow & Stone for oh-my-god-I-need-to-buy-it-all heaven!
Boat Trip to St Mawes
Catch the ferry to St Mawes and enjoy a day exploring this quaint town full of unique boutiques and lovely restaurants overlooking the water. Perfect for an afternoon in the sunshine and perhaps a look at the historic St Mawes Castle built by Henry VIII circa 1540.
Pendennis Castle
If you fancy keeping your feet on home soil then why not visit the sister castle to St Mawes, Pendennis. Pendennis Castle is just a 15 minute drive from the hotel and is truly spectacular with views across the whole of Falmouth. Take a picnic or enjoy a cream tea outside, wander the old castle keep and go back in time to how it would have been in days gone by. You can’t fail to fall in love with the romance and history of Pendennis, it’s one of the most spectacular attractions in Falmouth.
Paddle Boarding & Boat Hire
Why not enjoy some time trying your hand (or better, your feet!) at stand-up paddle boarding or perhaps organise an afternoon of canoeing! There is nowhere better in Falmouth than being on the water and with facilities available for all ages at both Swanpool and Gyllyngvase beaches, why not give it a try!
As you can see, there really is something for everyone; couples, families and dog owners alike and with up to 20% off rooms until the end of June, there can be no better summer holiday than a summer at the Greenbank!
