Say hello to our newly redesigned suite

Room 101 has recently had quite the transformation – and a name change. Say hello to The Florence Suite. With nautical influences and a vivid colour palette of sea blues, mustards and teals, it’s a sumptuous space for the most lavish of stays. We get the inside scoop from designer Matt Hulme about the project…

What was your inspiration for the final designs?

A key factor in the design for the refurbishment was making the room link with The Lookout that we created last year. We wanted to ensure that you had two equally impressive suites from a design point of view. They work together yet also had their own unique elements.  It was felt that the existing suite was looking tired and dated when compared to The Lookout.

The inspiration for the overall design scheme was again influenced by the unique location of the hotel next to the waterfront, with rich deep tones of blue and teal running throughout the room. We teamed this with flashes of ochre and yellow as an accent colour. This inspiration came from sitting in the Water’s Edge last year during sunset and seeing the flashes of sunlight bouncing off the waves in the harbour.

Due to the three large bay windows in the room there is a huge amount of natural light, so we were able to be brave with our choice of colour to create a warm and inviting space. We wanted to include slight nautical influences without it looking clichéd.

From the space is there anything notable you’d like to mention?

We commissioned a bespoke wallpaper for the lounge area of the bedroom. Our inspiration again came from watching sunsets over the harbour and the artist we used created a design influenced by this, with the Pendennis Point headland running through the wallpaper spanning the two walls. This is something we are very proud of as we feel the wallpaper is a stunning addition to the room and creates a real intimate lounge area.

We also commissioned bespoke watercolour artwork for the bedroom.

Again, as with The Lookout, the upholstered beds, armchairs, sofa, ottoman, desk chair and all soft furnishings are bespoke. They’ve all been designed by us exclusively for The Greenbank. We also had custom-made bedside tables and a new desk manufactured for the room.

What specialist suppliers have you worked with on this project?

All the paints are by Farrow and Ball and the wallpaper is bespoke. The rugs are from the amazing William Yeoward. Fabric suppliers include Linwood, Harlequin and Sanderson. We sourced lighting elements from Soho Home, Pooky Lights and Jim Lawrence.
