Meet Wedding Photographer Adam Lang

Adam from Adam Lang Photography has always had a keen interest in photography but he certainly never thought he’d end up photographing weddings! It wasn’t until Adam got married himself that he soon realised how quickly the day speeds by and how important it is to document. After being given the opportunity to assist an amazingly talented photographer who specialises in weddings, Adam’s passion for the industry was ignited.

“It’s not just about taking photographs. It’s about having the chance to travel and meet some great people along the way. However, it’s always nice to come home to Falmouth.”

What’s the best thing about photographing a Wedding at The Greenbank?

Photographing weddings at The Greenbank Hotel is great for many reasons. For a start the rooms are so luxurious – the perfect environment not only for shooting bridal prep, but also to make sure a bride is as relaxed as they can be pre-wedding. Obviously the view over the water is stunning. The Riverbank really makes the most of the beautiful view – an incredible backdrop for photographs. If newlyweds fancy a break from the party, the pontoon off the quay creates a great opportunity for a little quiet time. Time to take a moment to themselves (very important to do) and maybe a couple of sneaky couple portraits.

You got married at The Greenbank yourself. what made you choose the hotel as your venue? And what does it mean to you?

I remember as a child, passing the hotel on a sunny summer’s day. There were a bride and groom stood on the terrace, surrounded by their guests. I remember thinking ‘what an amazing place to get married’. Jump forward a couple of decades and the hotel holds a lot of memories for my wife Sophie and I. It’s where she said yes, where we both said “I do”, where we stayed on our first anniversary, and still where we choose to create memories with our family and friends. It’s not just the location and the stunning rooms that make the hotel – it’s also the welcoming and friendly staff. Oh… and the gin. The bar has lots of gin!

What’s your favourite photo you’ve ever taken?

That’s a tough one, as there are lots of shots I love for different reasons. I love capturing an emotional moment in a speech, a couple sharing a moment in front of an impressive sunset, or a shower of colourful confetti raining down on a pair of beaming newlyweds. I recently took a shot of a cheeky child peeping up a woman’s skirt that really makes me chuckle. However, I think I would have to choose a slightly unusual shot I managed to get this year. The couple had one of their favourite bands playing just after their outside ceremony. With the guests gathered around, the couple had what you could describe as an unofficial first dance in the gardens. The shot was taken from a low angle – you can’t see their faces, but it really captures the moment.

What’s your best piece of advice for a couple planning their big day?

I feel lots of people end up planning their day around what they think a wedding has to be. Overwhelmed by what they see in magazines and under pressure from people to have certain things. Just because your Aunt Mary enjoyed the chocolate fountain at your cousin’s wedding, doesn’t mean it’s what you need to have. Plan the day you want, celebrate the way that suits you!

What’s the process once a couple enquires about you photographing their wedding?

After an initial chat over email I like to arrange a meet with the couple over a coffee somewhere. I feel it’s important to get to know a little about the couple. To feel comfortable around each other. Although I have made photography my business, I don’t like to approach it as one when interacting with couples. I don’t like to think of people as clients. It’s an honour to be alongside a couple on their wedding day and it’s important to me to take a relaxed approach. It enables people to be themselves and enjoy their day without me getting in the way. It makes for better photographs.

Why should couples choose The Greenbank?

Not only will they get to tie the knot in a stunning setting, but speaking from experience, know that everything will be taken care of on the day. You don’t have to worry about a thing, as the amazing staff have it covered so things run without a hitch. (No pun intended). Oh… and you know the food will be top notch.

And why should they choose you?

I get excited about creating images that couples will love and I have a lot of passion for what I do. I hope that the images I produce speak for themselves, and that people choose me from having an invested interest in my style of photography.
