Introducing our Head Receptionist: Sam Sparkes

Having moved to Cornwall from Essex aged nine, Sam is in her own words “basically Cornish”. With two grown up children and a beautiful grey cat named Sylvie, our Head Receptionist tells us all about life in Cornwall.

When did you join The Greenbank and what prompted your move here?

I joined The Greenbank three years ago after leaving my career in teaching. I made the move to reduce my workload and have more free time. When I’m not at work, you can find me at the gym or walking around the beautiful Cornish countryside and coastline.

Where would you recommend as the must-see place for anyone visiting Cornwall?

Definitely Pedn Vounder beach with its crystal clear turquoise waters. At low tide, a sandbar and lagoon appear, which are incredible, and transform it into the perfect swimming spot.

What’s your favourite Cornish delicacy?

My favourite Cornish delicacy is a Philps cheese and vegetable pasty. They are freshly baked every morning and are delicious.

What is your favourite thing about Falmouth?

It has to be its vibe and diversity. I love that Falmouth is bustling throughout the year with locals, tourists, and students – so there is always something to do.

How would you describe Cornwall in three words?

Wet. Rugged. Wild.
