Meet Cornish Wedding Photographer Brian Robinson
Cornish wedding photographer Brian Robinson always had photography as a hobby growing up. But it wasn’t until 2009 that he realised he could turn his passion into a profession. Since then, he has grown his business into what it is today.
“Alongside weddings, I also photograph live music. This has helped to shape my distinctive style of photography. One day I can be photographing the most stunning wedding and the next I can be on the main stage at Boardmasters Festival, shooting some of the biggest bands in the world! Although very different, I find that weddings and live music compliment each other, as I document the moments that happen once in a lifetime.”
What’s the best thing about photographing a Wedding at The Greenbank?
It has to be the location. You have the stunning backdrop of Falmouth harbour, but then you step into the hotel and the interior is just beautiful. There are so many opportunities for photographs, both in and outside of The Greenbank.
What’s your favourite photo you’ve ever taken?
For me this changes. Currently it’s this shot of a bride called Nicola. It was taken on her wedding day over on the Roseland this summer. We had just taken some time out to do some pictures of the two of them with an ocean backdrop and she just said ‘I’m going in.’ She kicked her shoes off and went across the rocks to get her feet wet. It was just a spontaneous moment.
What’s your best piece of advice for a couple planning their big day?
Don’t stress about the weather. It’s the one element of your day that is out of your control. I usually make a plan with a couple on how we will approach the day should it rain. Even bad weather can make your pictures look stunning.
What’s the process once a couple enquires about you photographing their wedding?
I will always try to arrange a meet, usually over coffee or sometimes via Skype if the distance is too far; especially if a couple live out of Cornwall. It’s a good chance for us to get to know each other a little better and to talk about their wedding day. From there it’s onto the finer details with contracts and payments. My system is online now, which makes it all a little easier and secure to work with.
Why should couples choose The Greenbank?
As I mentioned earlier, the location would be my first choice. Not only the stunning views, but because of the size and the layout of The Greenbank. There is more to The Greenbank than first meets the eye. I have shot many weddings there which have used different areas of the venue and each has felt unique to the couple and the hotel. And The Greenbank team are amazing to work alongside. Your day will be in safe hands and stress free. If I come away feeling like I’ve been looked after well by the team, I can’t only imagine how happy the wedding party must be.
And why should they choose you?
I always say to couples that you are essentially inviting a complete stranger to share the most precious day of your lives with you. 50% of the reason you book with someone is because you love their work and want them to document your wedding day. The other 50% is because you connect with them and put your trust in them to take the wedding photographs you’ll love for the rest of your life.
