Free Half Term Events – The Royal Cornwall Museum, Truro

When: 19th October – 2nd November

If you’re looking for free kid-friendly activities in Cornwall, head down to The Royal Cornwall Museum in the heart of Truro city this autumn half term. From the unruly Romans to thrilling dramas at sea and inspiring females in aviation – the museum will be hosting plenty of interactive workshops, exhibitions and performances for the whole family. Plus, under 18s go for free.

The Very Hungry Caterpillar Show – The Hall For Cornwall, Truro

When: 21st – 22nd October

A stage adaptation of this classic children’s tale is sure to be a hit with the kids this autumn, and a nostalgic stroll down memory lane for lots of adults too. Whimsical characters are brought to life with the most colourful, ornate puppets during this 60 minute, heart-warming family show.

Lowender Celtice Festival – Redruth

When: 24th – 27th October

Celebrate all things Cornwall in the historic mining town of Redruth this October. Lowender, meaning ‘celebration and festivity’ in Cornish, is a festival that pays homage to Celtic culture, dance, and music. A joyful event in the calendar, the entire town will be hosting activities and workshops suitable for the whole family. Try your hand at learning a new instrument, give singing lessons a go, attend one of the many concerts, or learn some simple phrases in Cornish language.

Spooky Newquay Zombie Crawl – Newquay

When: 26th October

There are plenty of kid-friendly activities in Cornwall this Halloween, including the Spooky Newquay Zombie Crawl. From scary face painting and ‘realistic’ wound art, to zombie pirates on stilts, pumpkin carving workshops, apple bobbing, and a ride on the ghost train – the day will be filled with frighteningly fun, family-friendly events.

Halloween at Heligan – The Lost Gardens of Heligan

When: 26th October – 3rd November

This year, The Lost Gardens of Heligan are welcoming the end of the growing season and the all-important annual autumn harvest with lots of outdoor family activities for visitors to get involved in.

Create art inspired by Heligan’s bountiful harvest display at the arts and crafts corner – as part of the annual, worldwide Big Draw Festival. Get hands-on with apple pressing sessions, or head to The Barn for potion mixing workshops and wand making classes. Heligan will also be honouring key female figures in nature with a family trail steeped in folklore, history and even witchcraft.

Halloweden – The Eden Project, St Austell

When: 26th October – 3rd November

Halloweden at The Eden Project will be welcoming creepy crawlies to the biomes. Learn more about insects at the magnificent minibeast show, and get up close and personal to the critters with interactive activities and experiments at the Bug Fair. Keep your eyes peeled for ‘mega-beasts’ hiding in the rainforest biome, and take part in the trail to catch them all.

It’s also time to lace up your skates, as The Eden Project’s indoor ice-rink makes its return on the 16th October. A perfect idea to add to your list of kid-friendly activities in Cornwall this season.

Pottery Workshops – Leach Pottery, St Ives

When: 1st November

Leach Pottery is offering a free pottery workshop for kids with their museum entrance this half term. Set in the picturesque town of St Ives, the Young Potters Takeover will allow budding sculptors to explore a new skill through a series of workshops across the studio. Learn how to prepare clay from scratch, direct senior potters on the kick wheels as they throw pots, have a go at creating your own hand-made wares, and sketch new designs to display in the museum.

Footloose – The Minack Theatre, Porthcurno

When: 1st – 2nd November

This November, an upbeat adaptation presented by the British Theatre Academy is bringing high-energy to the clifftops of Porthcurno. Head to Cornwall’s ocean-side stage at The Minack Theatre for Footloose – a family-friendly, all-singing, all-dancing musical sure to put a pep in your step and a grin on your face. Featuring all the classic hits including ‘Let’s Hear It For The Boy’, ‘Holding Out For A Hero’, and ‘Footloose’, it’s set to be a feel-good party in Porthcurno.

Pick Your Own – Trevaskis Farm, Hayle

When: everyday

One of our favourite kid-friendly activities in Cornwall for getting the little ones outdoors and connecting with nature, is a trip to Trevaskis Farm just outside Hayle. All year round, Trevaskis Farm runs ‘Pick Your Own’ from 10am – 5pm. A great family day out, head to the farm park to pick the fresh produce growing that season – and only pay for what you pick. In the autumn months, expect runner beans, blackberries, plums, and the last of the summer strawberries and raspberries.
