Introducing The Lookout – our newest suite
The Lookout Suite – the latest addition to our rooms – is an opulent, sophisticated space. With a rich colour palette of burnt oranges, dark teals and blues, it features a super king bed, roll-top bath, bespoke furniture, warm lighting, and of course those panoramic views across Falmouth harbour.
We get the inside scoop from designer Matt Hulme about the project…
Tell us about your inspiration?
“My main inspiration was to create a room that would become a key feature for the hotel. The space was previously an underused function room, so I was fortunate to have a good overall space to work with. The room had to fit with the brand identity of The Greenbank. The layout had to take full advantage of the room’s stunning location and view.
Of course, due to its prominent location on the harbourside, a nautical inspired scheme was a natural choice. However, I didn’t want to go down the clichéd route of nautical stripes and making it overly ‘seaside’. I wanted to create an inviting space with warm tones of teal and burnt orange, with nautical influences brought in with the bespoke lampshades and artwork that were installed.”
“I wanted to ensure that the bathroom was classic and not too contemporary. We installed a traditional style wall panelling detail, together with a large walk-in shower, wash stand and stunning cast iron roll-top bath. The bath was painted teal to link the bathroom with the bedroom.
Sensor lighting is also included in the bathroom. So at night when you enter the room, a soft glow of low level lighting helps to illuminate the room without turning the main lights on.”
What are its notable features?
“Every piece of furniture in the room is bespoke. The bed, sofa bed, armchairs, desk chair and so on – are all designed exclusively for the hotel. All the paints used are Farrow and Ball, the wallpaper is from Cole & Son. Fabrics include Harlequin, Sanderson and Scion.
I was also keen to use the local Falmouth based supplier Cream Cornwall, who created lampshades for the floor lamps and provided some additional accessories to the room.”
