Greenbank’s Gingerbread Extravaganza
You may remember that last Christmas, we created a gingerbread Greenbank Hotel courtesy of our Executive Chef Nick and Pastry Chef Paul. This year we feel that we’ve trumped it with this entirely edible festive fortress in the shape of Pendennis Castle!
The project took Paul and Nick four days to make, being carefully carried from the kitchen to our entrance hall in time for Christmas Eve. Over 12 kilos of gingerbread was mixed and baked to create the castle, alongside marzipan Christmas trees, icing sugar snow, cinnamon scroll canons, white chocolate and finger biscuit pathways, and candy canes for the castle keep. Inside is lit with fairy lights, and the three flags flying include Greenbank, English Heritage, and of course our Cornish flag!
Paul said: “We chose Pendennis Castle as it’s such an iconic landmark for Falmouth. We hope to create an even more ambitious construction next year, and ideas are already being discussed in the kitchen. All will be revealed next year!”
