Explore St Mawes

We’re lucky enough to have the Falmouth to St Mawes ferry on our very doorstep. With 364-day operation and fresh autumn air across the Fal Estuary, there’s no better time of year than autumn to explore this beautiful peninsula.

Cafe Chandlers

Arrive at St Mawes early in the morning and start the day at Café Chandlers, a perfect spot to sit and watch the boats pass by.

Lauded for its coffee and cake, they use seasonal ingredients and pride themselves with the local produce on their shelves – plus, there’s always a portion of humour thrown in for good measure!

Coastal and Inland Walks

Situated at the end of the beautiful Roseland Peninsula, visitors to St Mawes are spoilt for choice with several coastal and inland walks. Lace up your walking boots, wander around the headland, and admire the sweeping panoramic views across the Fal Estuary.

St Mawes is also rich with tranquil tidal creeks, perfect for exploring. We recommend St Just Creek, north of the peninsula.

St Mawes Bakery

Pastries, cakes, bread, paninis – St Mawes Bakery is the perfect place to stop and refuel between coastal rambles. It’s always great to pick up some of their famous Cornish pasties for the ferry back back to Falmouth.

Saffron cakes always go down well back at home, so make sure to stock up for a little taste of Cornwall when you find yourself yearning for our friendly folk and stunning scenery!

St Mawes Castle

King Henry VIII’s clover shaped defences of St Mawes Castle is one of the best-preserved coastal artillery fortresses from his era, built as protection from an invasion threat of Catholic France and Spain in the 1500s.

The sea views from atop the castle are sublime and, even better, St Mawes Castle is the sister fortress to Falmouth’s very own Pendennis Castle.

The Falmouth to St Mawes ferry is too good an opportunity to let up, especially with such proximity to the Greenbank. Whether you’re visiting us for a long weekend or just dropping in for an Afternoon Tea, hopping on to the estuary for a Cornish exploration never fails to make a grand day out.
