December Cocktail Recipe: Old Fashioned
Contrastingly sweet with a tangy twist, this old-school tipple features whisky, Angostura bitters and orange zest…
• 2 teaspoons castor sugar
• 2 teaspoons of water
• 4 drops of Angostura bitters
• Orange zest (lemon also works well)
• 2 parts (50ml) J&B Scotch Whisky
This method couldn’t be simpler. Rub and stretch your orange zest twist to release some of the citrus oils, and rub it on the inside of your rocks glass to infuse its flavour. Then muddle your sugar, water and bitters into the glass, using a muddler (or pestle). Generously pour in your whisky on top. Finish with a couple of chunky ice cubes, stir, and enjoy.
Bartender Nina says: “Fitting perfectly in your hand, the Old Fashioned is aptly named because it is made in the style of the original cocktail. No frills, no gimmicks. Whilst you’ll still have the full force of whisky shining through, the cocktail is also zesty, vibrant and sweet.”
Throughout December, we’ll also be serving our limited-edition festive variation – The Spiced Old Fashioned – which includes a festive cinnamon sprinkling!
