A very successful beach clean for Surfers Against Sewage
Old tyres, used wellies, rusty pipes plus so much more collected at the bi-annual beach clean!
In collaboration with Sharp’s Brewery and Surfers Against Sewage, our Big Spring Beach Clean was hugely successful. More than fifty volunteers collected 13 massive bags of plastic waste alongside items such as tyres, pipes and fishing nets. The clean was held on Greenbank beach, located just behind the hotel.
A big thank you from Sharp’s brewery
Sponsored by Rock-based Sharp’s Brewery’s, participants over the age of 18 received a free pint at the end of the clean as a great big thanks for their efforts. The clean was a part of Surfers Against Sewage’s ‘Big Spring Beach Clean’ campaign which is the largest and most effective volunteer beach cleaning project in the UK.
Marketing Executive, Emma Cowley at The Greenbank Hotel, said: “We were overwhelmed with how many people turned up – it was fantastic to see so many volunteers wanting to keep our Cornish beaches clean.”
“From students, locals, staff members and even holiday-makers taking part, we managed to collect over 13 bags of plastic waste. Items included well tyres, fishing nets, swimming costumes, carpets and so much more. We couldn’t have done it without our amazing volunteers. They had a well-deserved pint of Atlantic at the end thanks to Sharp’s!”
Greenbank beach requires regular cleaning due to the amount of boats and shipwrecks along the harbourside. As well as this, the road adjacent has unfortunately been known to bring many items onto the beach.
James Nicholls, senior brand manager at Sharp’s Brewery, said: “With our brewery situated near the coast in Cornwall, taking care of our beaches and coastline is really important to us. We thoroughly appreciate The Greenbank Hotel for the initiative. We’re thrilled to be working alongside other Cornish businesses, like The Greenbank Hotel. Keeping our beaches and coastline in pristine condition. Thank you also to all the volunteers who participated.”
