A day out with Emma at Kynance Cove

Meet Emma (our Marketing Assistant) as she explores her best-loved beach…

Where: 50 minutes from The Greenbank

“Being lucky enough to live in Cornwall, I have lots of opportunities to explore some of the most outstanding beaches in the UK. But if I had to name a favourite, it would have to be Kynance Cove on the Lizard Peninsula.

Owned by the National Trust, this stunningly beautiful cove is just a 50 minute drive from The Greenbank Hotel – and it’s definitely worth the journey to experience such a magical, all-year-round destination.

Probably the most photographed and painted location in Cornwall, the contrast between the dark serpentine rock, white sands and turquoise blue waters of Kynance Cove is a breath-taking sight.

Not surprisingly, it is a magnet for tourists in the spring and summer. Aim to get there by 10.30am at peak times, or you may find the car park already full, but you can often have the entire cove to yourself in the autumn and winter months.

When I arrive at 9am, it’s low tide and the early morning sun is hitting the jagged rocks. I clamber down to the sandy beach for an invigorating dip in the sea, which can be on the chilly side so a wetsuit is a must in the winter!

Next I indulge in a spot of location reading (current favourite has to be Winston Graham’s Poldark, as Kynance Cove is one of the stars of the hit TV series). I move only to refuel with a Cornish pasty and Callestick ice-cream at the eco-friendly café.

As the perfect end to my perfect day, I then take a scenic 20 minute walk back to the carpark, photographing some spectacular views along the way. I plan to be back soon and bring along my four legged friend, once the seasonal dog ban is over. Kynance really is a must.”
